Quality and leading-edge technology
Hänel’s office and storage systems

Products such as the Rotomat®, the Lean-Lift® and the Multi-Space®
are high-tech products for automated storage solutions

With its numerous inventions, Hänel Storage Systems has made a significant contribution to the success of vertical carousels and vertical lift modules in the field of automated materials handling. This success is yet another incentive for our team to offer future-oriented solutions for intralogistics based on continuous further development.
Hänel storage systems find applications in a wide variety of industries. Operating in sectors such as medical technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive, aviation, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and wholesale – to name but a few areas that demonstrate its versatility – Hänel has the right solution for every application. Numerous small and mediumsize enterprises have also opted for the efficient storage systems from Hänel.
The modern Hänel microprocessor control systems enable continuous inventory updates and accurate inventory control. They can be used as stand-alone storage management systems or in conjunction with customer IT systems.

The operating principle

Hänel Rotomat® principle

Each Hänel Rotomat® is designed according to the tried-andtested Ferris wheel model (vertical carousel principle) which means: goods to user and not user to goods.
This saves time!
The compact construction enables up to 60 % more storage capacity to be created on a minimal footprint by making use of the available room height.
This saves costs!

Hänel Lean-Lift® principle

The Hänel Lean-Lift® is both storage rationalization and goods protection in one: At the center of the ‘cabinet’ is a computercontrolled positioning lift – called the ‘extractor.’
In front of it and behind it are the storage shelves. This is where the articles are kept in containers. The storage locations are accessed automatically under electronic control by means of the extractor, which stores or retrieves the requested container.
The operator works comfortably in the ergonomically positioned retrieval area.

A real-life case study
Icon Metal Forming, Corydon, IN

b1

Martinrea International is a global leader in the production of quality metal parts and assemblies. Their Icon Metal Forming division, located in rural Corydon, IN, is proud to be a Tier 1 supplier to General Motors, manufacturing a variety of complex metal parts.
Quality control is critical to ensure that all parts match specification. Icon uses heavy-duty test fixtures to precisely measure finished goods.
The heavy-duty fixtures were stored in the open, on wheeled carts due to their weight. This took up considerable space, offered little protection and was difficult to manage.
A Lean-Lift® VLM from Hänel was installed in the center of the production area to store all of the test fixtures. The VLM freed considerable floor space for other uses, but still kept the inventory close at hand for easy access. Storage pans capable of holding 2,200 pounds ensured that even the heaviest fixture could be stored. All inventory is now tracked using an advanced Hänel microprocessor controller and color touchscreen user interface. An overhead crane is planned to easily transfer larger items to carts.

Icon chose to go up instead of out to take advantage of their generous ceiling height.

Heavy-Duty Steel jigs used by quality control department, were kept on a series of shelves and carts for easy portability, but they occupied oo much space on the factory floors. All of the inventory that used to fill this storage area (foreground) was moved into a single Hänel Lean-Lift® Vertical Lift Module (background).
